Shopify order tags are an important way for improving your workflow and productivity. In this article we look at the top 10 use cases for order tags.
1. Tag orders that are not fulfilled after X amount of days.
This is useful as it lets you know if you have somehow missed fulfilling an order. Simply enter the number of days to wait for fulfilment, and if the order is not fulfilled after the preset days, then add a not fulfilled tag to the order.
2. Tag Shopify orders by country
In this scenario, you tag all new orders with the country of the customer purchasing the order. The country can be taken from the billing address of the order.
3. Tagging orders that have a large quantity
For this tagging scenario, when a new order is placed, you want to go through all the line items, and check if any of the line items SKUs are above a pre set quantity. If yes, you can add a tag to this order, which will be useful for your inventory team to give the order the required attention.
4. Tag shipping details to an order (from an external app)
For this, once you have integrated with a shipping app, you can add the shipping details provided by the shipping app to the order.

In this scenario, you tag the order with the product variant details - like colour, size, price etc for each line item in the order.

7. Tagging orders with other tags
Sometimes it maybe useful to add customer or product tags to the order. For example, whenever a new order is placed by a customer, add all of the customers tags to the order. Or you can check the products bought by the customer in this order, and add all of the product tags to the order. You can get more specific by adding all the product vendors, or product type, or the SKU codes if necessary.

9. First time customer tags
This tag is useful as it highlights a first-time customer. When an order is placed, if the order is placed by a new customer, add a tag like 'first-time customer' to the order. This is useful as it allows you to personalize and send welcome messages to a customer.
10. Grouping the same customers order together with tags
If a customer places an order, and the customer already has other partially or unfulfilled orders, you can highlight this customer with a 'group-shipping' tag, which will allow your warehouse to combine all of the customers orders in one shipping to save costs.
